The term enterprise (of operate) designates

  • the entire phase from the production to the scrapping, outline and/or final deactivation of a plant. It contains the normal operation and all phases of the maintenance.

Definition enterprise: The enterprise is a combination of factors of production (work, soil, capital). The combination of the factors of production always takes place according to the economy principle. Apart from these (system-indifferent) definitions of the enterprise independent of the economic system, there are still further definitions of the enterprise referred to the economic system: In a free-market economy the following regulation factors work:

  • the self-determination of the economic plan (autonomy principle),
  • the acquisition-economical principle (maximization of profit),
  • the principle of the private property.

In a planned economy this regulation factors are relevant:

  • central national economy plan (organ principle),
  • Principle of plan fulfillment,
  • Principle of the common property.
