Ergonomics is an interdisciplinary science, which regards the work of humans under different aspects. Their origin lies in the economic maximum principle, which maximum success with the given means to reach (see: Economy). Goals are the optimal organization of task of work and working system, the job evaluation, security and the health protection on the job.

Thes subject of ergonomics are the scientific, methodical and systematic treatment of all questions those with human work are connected, more exactly with the planning, organization, achievement and completion of human work. The main aspect of ergonomics can be placed under the question, which humans can carry out with the work.

Ergonomics examines different developments of concrete work under the aspects of the human co-operation and the interaction of humans and work, and/or media.

Also ergonomics with the conditions of work and their effects and consequences for humans are concerned.

The science relies on the methods experience, theory and organizational scientific activity.

History of ergonomics

Ergonomics was justified by Frederick Winslow Taylor (1856-1915) and its pupil franc shelter Gilbreth (1868-1924). To optimize both tried working processes from workers to, by observing certain groups of workers. Taylor had assumed that to fathom by the observation of the best worker the optimal operational sequence. Gilbreth however examined the laziest worker, since this undertakes only the most necessary work procedures.

Tasks of ergonomics

Ergonomics is divided into two ranges: the adjustment of the work to humans and the adjustment of humans to the work.

During the adjustment of the work on humans paid attention to the natural conditions of humans and accordingly the jobs will become, - expirations and - environment adapted and arranged.

During the adjustment of humans to the work it is guaranteed that humans the qualification requirements fairly will and its professional experience, abilities and talents into the work also can bring. Also it must be guaranteed that the worker is motivated.
