European region, also Euregio, euro region or, is a designation of landspreading regions in Europe, mostly with economic emphasis. They are to promote transnational co-operation, in addition, in social and cultural regard. Europe expects apart from the aspect of landspreading co-operation also a stabilization of the potentially weaker edge regions of the individual member states.

The terms are not clearly defined, why Euregios are to be found also in different legals form:

  • firm of unions after public right
  • firm of unions after private law
  • loose unions, which do not educate a legal entity

The designation European region is derived from the regulations of the Council of Europe convention from 1980 over transnational co-operation between the regions of Europe, the "“Madrider in such a way specified convention"”.
