The federation of the commercial professional associations registered association (HVBG) is the central protection of interests of the 26 commercial professional associations. Besides it fulfills coordinating tasks, as for example the central statistics of the commercial accident insurance carriers or the execution of the general distribution of burdens and the special distribution of burdens for the so-called GDR refuse dumps, which had taken over the German accident insurance carriers from the accident insurance of the GDR due to the agreement contract. In addition it is central Dienstleister of the DALE UV procedure, with which physicians can transfer digital disease and accident reports to the professional associations. The federation has its seat in sank Augustin with Bonn.

Like also different federations of the German social security institutions the HVBG is an organization under private law with the legal form of a registered association. Contrary to its club members, the commercial professional associations, the HVBG is thus no public body.

The HVBG is carrier of the following five mechanisms:

  • Berufsgenossenschaftliche center for security and health (BGZ) in sank Augustin
  • Berufsgenossenschaftliches Institut work and health (BGAG) in Dresden ()
  • Berufsgenossenschaftliches Institut for industrial safety (BGIA) in sank Augustin
  • Berufsgenossenschaftliche Forschungsinstitut for industrial medicine (BGFA) in Bochum
  • Berufsgenossenschaftliche academy (BGA) in Hennef
