The city hall is the landmark of the city. The highest building of the city center is in the center at the king route and is.

It was built from 1840 to 1844 after plans of Friedrich and/or Eduard 1845 to 1850 followed a further construction unit with the tower, which is copied the Palazzo Vecchio in Florenz. 1900/01 developed the cultivation at the king route (architect: Friedrich of Thiersch), in which today the meeting room is. On the inside the splendourful arranged stairway particularly stings, as well as the large meeting room in the eye.

There were structural changes again 1996, when at the back houses for the building of the underground were torn off and over years an excavation opened themselves. Since the completion at the end of of 1998 is the station "“city hall"” the Frther underground directly under the city hall. Also directly before the building one umgeplant: where in former times the vierspurige federal highway 8 had its place, is today a bus station.

While the Michaeliskirchweih as well as for specific occasions is lit up the tower with lamps. One can recognize it so already from a distance. Originally the lighting should remain only for short time at the tower, the pleased this however so well that also with the momentarily strained budgetary situation without the lighting is not to be done.

A special receipt 1997 received the kickers of the SpVgg Greuther as itself before the city hall balcony of thousands met around the players zuzujubeln.

The tower can be visited unfortunately only for specific occasions (e.g. day of the open door). From above one has a wonderful view over the city.
