As Fiasco (ital. fiasco "bulgy bottle" too mittellat. flasco "kegs") one designates an straw-encased bottle for Chianti. Beyond that the designation Fiasco is used often also for other kinds of bottle and kinds of wine.
It developed already in the late Middle Ages from the clay/tone barrels of the antique ones; the straw casing served originally to stabilize at that time still thin-walled glass against the liquid pressure.
