A fire protection representative is one of the employer in writing assigned and particularly trained person, who notices the operational fire protection in the enterprises. The emphasis of the activity is thereby with the preventing fire protection.

By the reorganizations in the industrial safety law (ArbSchG), here in regarding the preventing fire protection in enterprises, these entrepreneur obligations/tasks can be fulfilled to the special working reliability regulation (BetrSichV) and the associated conversion of the Berufsgenossenschaftlichen regulations (BGR), by order of a particularly trained coworker or also by an externally ordered fire protection-assigned.

The order of a suitable person can be considered by the fire insurance of the enterprise during the appointment of the height of the premium.

Tasks

The major tasks of an fire protection-assigned are:

Definition and accomplish organizational fire protection measures, like a providing of

• Fire protection order (part of A, part of B, part of C)
• Escape and rescue plans
• Alarm plans
• Fire-brigade plans of application
• Evacuation plans and the disaster defense plans
• detailed fire protection plans for particularly important operating equipment
• Instructions of the staff regarding fire protection order, escape and rescue plans as well as existing fire-extinguishing equipment
• Organization and monitoring of in-plant fire protection controls

• constant contact to the responsible fire-brigade

Besides it is to recognize and judge dangers (endangerment evaluation), as well as whereupon it respects that the safety-relevant behavior rules keep employee. Furthermore it has to ensure that dangers are eliminated and damage is kept as small as possible.

Often it is responsible also for monitoring and additional control of so-called hot work, like a welding, a soldering or other work with open flame.

Obligation for order

In Germany no general obligation exists for the order of an fire protection-assigned. However the Lands of the Federal Republic in their respective building law can prescribe the order. This applies in particular with hospitals, larger sales agencies and larger industrial buildings, since due to the high number of persons in these buildings on increased dangers is to be counted. Besides the responsible building authority can demand an fire protection-assigned with special's buildings.

Training

Germany

There are not obligating regulations for training. It should be paid attention to the fact that training course contents itself at the training model of the CFPA Europe, and/or at the guidelines vfdb = the combination for the promotion of the German fire protection registered association; Guideline 12-09/01: 2001-07 - Order, tasks, qualification and training of fire protection-assigned - and the vfdb instruction card 12-09/01a: 2003-04, orient. It takes usually 2 weeks and locks with a verbal and written examination.

Without training course to the fire protection-assigned can be ordered:

• Persons with final training as the elevated and higher fire-brigade-technical service
• Persons with final training as the middle fire-brigade-technical service for full-time forces, if the person is full-time active for the ordering enterprise
• Persons with final university or specialized university education in the field fire protection

Austria

In Austria the training by different institutions, as in the institutes for promotion of economy development of the chambers of economics or the fire-brigade schools are accomplished.
