The kind of flea herbs or flea herb (Pulicaria) from the family of the basket bloom plants (Asteraceae) was originally placed by the natural scientist with that close related Alant, into the same kind Inula, assigned however later because of the deviating double hair crown of its own kind. As welfare plant diverse effect was attributed to the large flea herb (Pulicaria dysenterica), particularly against the Ruhr. It is well-known in the vernacular under the names Ruhrwurz or Ruhr flea herb. The small flea herb (Pulicaria vulgaris) is used just like the large flea herb this very day with small animals and dogs against Zecken and flea infestation.
The kinds of flea herb are one year's or krautige plants of several years with upright, sieved to 60 centimeters of high These are like those oblong round and wavy sheets more or less wollig behaart. The gold-yellow hemispheric sit gestielt in the upper Blattachseln. They have very numerous, linealisch spread, yellow tongue blooms. Flea herbs love the humidity and are at brook and river bank, moisten meadows and edges of grave pretty often in parts. In addition, the omission of many of such biotopes in the past decades caused decreases here (red list category 3: endangered). The circulation area is enough from south and Central Europe to west and Central Asia. In South Germany, in Austria and Switzerland are relatively frequent ``the flea herb ``- kinds; in north and East Germany they are absent-minded until rare.
The large flea herb (Pulicaria dysenterica) used under the name Conyza media or Arnica suedensis are enough time against the Dysenterie (Ruhr). Therefore also the popular name Ruhrwurz comes and latin kind name dysenteria. Because of their astringent effect today as areas of application of the welfare plant colds, fever, woman complaints, charge, headache, ulcers, squeezings, toothache and nausea are indicated.
