FORON is a label name for household appliances.

In the year 1926 the Zschopauer engine works J.S. Rasmussen began with the production of coolers and created in addition a branch in sharp stone. 1929 could present the Zschopauer of engine works on the Leipziger spring fair under the Logo DKW cooling first the developed refrigerator, which at the same time also first developed in Europe was, and broke thereby the monopoly of the USA existing since 1918.

The market success led 1931 to separating the German cool and prime movers GmbH (dkk sharp stone) as independent enterprise to the production of coolers and combustion engines.

1946 took the expropriated and put under state control enterprise as VEB German cool and Kraftanlagen sharp stone production, whereby first compressors were repaired and starting from 1950 also refrigerators.

In the year 1955 in a former paper factory in Niederschmiedeberg a manufacturing plant for refrigerators was opened, while in sharp stone compressors were predominantly manufactured. Later still two further manufacturing plants were added.

Into the 1960er years the work was subordinated to the collective combine VEB Monsator in Schwarzenberg.

In the year 1989 an annual production was reached by 1 million refrigerators and in Niederschmiedeberg worked for the first time 2000 persons employed.

From the only producer for household refrigerators in the GDR, sharp stone followed in the year 1990 the German cool and prime movers GmbH, which was liquidated in the year 1992 by the trust establishment.

This Saxonian company developed hygiene in the year 1992 with support of Greenpeace and Institut Dortmund first FCKW and FKW free refrigerator of more recent time, the "“Greenfreeze"”. It was distinguished in February 1993 with the blue ecological angel and went to 15. March 1993 at the follow-up company, the FORON of domestic appliances GmbH, into the quantity production.

The FORON of domestic appliances GmbH had to adjust 1995 refrigerator production and went to 15. March 1996 in the total enforcement and refrigerator production was sold to the ATAG Kitchen Group in the Netherlands.

On 1 November 2001 the companies EBD, FORON and Seppelfricke fused to the EFS domestic appliances GmbH with seat in Duisburg.

After in the year 2001 with the insolvency of the HKT Produktionsgesellschaft production had been completely stopped in Niederschmiedeberg, the production plants were dismantled in the year 2002 and sold to the Turkish entrepreneurial group

In the meantime the Italian enterprise Merloni holds the rights at the mark Foron. Accordingly in Germany under the mark the Foron refugee of household appliances originates from Italy.
