Francis Harry Compton Crick COM (* 8. June 1916 in Northampton, England; "† 28 July 2004 in San Diego, the USA) was an English physicist and biochemist and discovered together with James Watson the molecular structure of the (DNS, English: DNA).

Crick had locked 1937 at the University college in London a physics study. It was in the meantime active for the British navy and worked on magnetic and acoustic naval mines. Starting from 1947 it studied additionally biology and dedicated themselves for many years, but unsuccessfully at the Cavendish laboratory of the University of Cambridge of its graduation. It concerned itself with the X-ray-crystallographic investigation of the hemoglobin molecule, when the American biochemist James Watson pushed 1951 to it and made themselves both to decode the structure of the DNA. On 28 February 1953 both had created it to present to the interested science a spatial model of the DNA Doppelhelix which were based on Roentgen diffraction data of Rosalind Franklin and Maurice Wilkins. This model attains world-famousness and has to today validity. 1955 presented to Francis its " adapters Hypothesis ", which meant, a to date unknown structure the amino acids to their destination bring and there correctly linked (today know we, this are tRNA as adapter molecule) to,1962 received Crick, Wilkins and Watson for their spatial model of the DNA the Nobelpreis for medicine. Rosalind Franklin, whose contributed research results substantially to the decoding of the DNA structure, had already died 1958.

At the high age Crick at its own Institut in the California La Jolla at a large challenge, the attempt tried, to solve and explain by a comprehensive theory the nature of the spirit. It is to be also owed to it that this question became the legitimate the subject of the natural science. Thus it postulated 1990 that now the time would be ripe to tackle the mystery of the human spirit scientifically. Humans, "„your joys, and suffering, its memories, its goals, your sense for your own identity and free will - with all that it concerns in reality only the behavior of an enormous accumulation of nerve cells and pertinent molecules "“, formulated themselves it in its 1994 book "“which published the soul is real"”.

It died on 28 July 2004 at the age of 88 years at intestine cancer.
