Magendie (* 6 October 1783 in Bordeaux; "† 7 October 1855 in Sannois with Paris) was a French physiologist and is considered as one the outrider of the modern medicament therapy.

Magendie introduced experimental methods to the pharmacology, physiology and pathology.

Magendie, the son of a Wundarztes, studied even in of Paris medicine and worked later in different hospitals. In the year 1808 he became the doctor of the medicine promoviert.1822 confirmed he the discovery of Charles Bell that the ventralen nerve roots of the motor, which has dorsalen sensory functions (Bell stomach the law).

1831 he became a professor for medicine at the de France in Paris.1836 professor of the physiology and general pathology at the de France, became er1821 member and 1837 president that Paris Academy of Sciences.

Due to its pharmakologischen investigations it is considered as one the discoverer of the alkaloid Emetin and as a first person, who determined Emetin as an effective component of the Brechwurz. Beyond that it analyzed the physiological effects of the alkaloids Strychnin and Chinin.Bei its work stated for the first time it the fact that excerpts of the plant parts can be used better than medicaments than the plant parts themselves since with the excerpts fewer active substance fluctuations arises.
