Friedrich of Erckert (* 30 December 1869 in bromine mountain, west Prussia, "† 16. March 1908 with Seatsub, Betschuanaland (today: Botswana)) was a German officer of the guard and imperial colonial force. Because of the first considerable introduction of camels (correct: It is considered to Dromedare) into a German military unit as a "“father of the camel rider troop.

Military career/development

  • 12. December 1902: Return to Germany and service in the infantry regiment 92 to Braunschweig
  • 22. May 1904: Transport to the captain and company commander of the 2. Company 92
  • November 1904: After beginning of the Hererokriegs freiwillige message and reentry into the colonial force. Leader of the 12. Company in 2. Field regiment (IV.Batallion), participation in various engagements of the Herero and/or Hottentottenaufstands.
  • April 1907: Commander of the north Namaland.

"“The course captain of Erckert"”

With large military thoroughness prepare campaign against the "“Simon Kopper Hottentotten"” (today Nama) with tragic outcome literarily by Hans Grimm in his novel "“people without area (1926)"” one regenerated. Friedrich of Erckert wrote even under alias article for newspapers like "„the future "“and contributed to the book "„with the colonial force by German Africa "“, where he wrote Africanus"” under the alias "“simplex.

Its most well-known quotation, a sense saying, comes of its diary, which one found with the dead one: "“Primarily the largest self-respect -, clean-hold body and soul do nothing common - always control themselves; selbstlos, cheerfully and courageously its - say themselves that a straight, upright attitude also actual enjoys the expression of a straight soul about simple things, nothing impossible require, to an attainable goal however turns patience, perseverance, collected will - lodging never in the dirt.
