Friedrich William Hagen (* 16. June 1814 in Dietersheim Dottenheim; "† 13 June 1889 in attaining) was a physician, representative of the human psychiatry and one the responsible persons for incapacitating the Bavarian fairy tale king Ludwig II.

Life

Hagen was one of four sons of the minister Friedrich William Hagen. After the attendance of the latin school in wind home it studied theology starting from 1827 first, then medicine in attaining and Munich. Its graduation to the Dr. med. took place on 18 August 1836. Hagen in a country doctor practice in Velden gained practical experiences as a physician. A travel scholarship made 1844 the meeting with the well-known mad physicians in Germany, in Paris, London and Gent for it possible.

1846 were assigned Hagen as Assistenzarzt of the circle lunatic asylum attaining to transfer 46 mentally patient of the lunatic asylum Schwabach into the new lunatic asylum attaining. He finds the patients in a deplorable condition, partly naked on straw stored and with chains around the neck to the wall fastened. This was particularly for it the impact, itself for a bearable to use human being-worthy existence of the patients.

On 22 July 1847 Hagen Margarethe Babette of closer ones (* 1824, "† 1912) in wind home married. In the marriage 7 children were born. 1849 were appointed Hagen the director of the lunatic asylum Irsee with Kaufbeuren. 1859 to 1887 he was a director of the circle lunatic asylum attaining, and 1860 to 1887 university professor for psychiatry in attaining.

Due to its technical authority it was invited to the cooperation at the hand dictionary of the physiology.

Hagens name stands beside three others on the appraisal from 8 June 1886, with which Ludwig II. the mental irresponsibility was certified to the Bavarian king. After Dr. Rudolf Sponsel of the "“society for general and integrative Psychotherapie Germany"” (SGIPT) was Hagen probably psychologically, psychopathologisch and also scientifically the most competent of the four consultants, even if Dr. Bernhard von Gudden were more famous than Hagen.
