Leboyer (* 1918) is a French gynecologist and birth aid.

It was for a long time in a Paris hospital active. He is the father of the gentle birth medicine, which admits also as Leboyer method is.

Leboyer set up the demand that the newborn child was to be brought affectionately and without unnecessary stress on the world. From the security of the nut/mother body the newborn child should be allowed itself to accustom slowly to the physical change. To it the following measures belong:

  • The newborn child is to be put to the nut/mother on the belly, in order to feel the warmth and to hear the heart tones of the nut/mother. So the baby is to recover from the strains of the birth.
  • The navel cord does not become immediately after the birth splits, thus the child the conversion to the independent respiration is to fall more easily.
  • Child and nut/mother are given time to learn itself to know only once. After it the newborn child is only bathed warmly and put then for the first time to the chest.
  • With the child is to be gently gone around, if no special medical measures are necessary.
  • The relieving room should be absorbed particularly warmly and the light, so that the child can get accustomed to the transition

Leboyer brought also the Indian Babymassage into the west.

It lives today as a writer in London.
