Gaffel is the mark in Cologne of the residents private brewery Gaffel Becker & CO., which brew the local since 1908 under this name.
The history Gaffel of the can be attributed to the brewery and restaurant to the Leysten, at whose place today the Gaffel Brauhaus stands.
Under the name to Brussels yard was again opened the brewery by Gottfried Joseph Schumacher in the year 1822. Schumacher operated the brewery until 1857. After dessem death its brothers and sisters led the brewery, until they sold this 1859 at pure hard Joseph Appel. Until 1874 the Brussels yard was then resumed by its widow. In the following time until 1888 the house was only used as restaurant. The Brauer Adam Lenzen operated a house brewery later temporarily. Afterwards it as restaurant and beer trade under the name firmierte luck on brewery AG.
To 24. May 1908 took over the brothers Becker the brewery, change the hotel and changed the names after the Cologne Gaffeln too in the Gaffel. The house experienced a change 1918 by a reorganization of the interior with historical motives of the city Cologne.
Before the Second World War approx. 5,000 was produced hl. End of the 1940er years were there 10,000 hl. Today the private brewery in the fourth generation is led.
In the year 2004 the paragraph of Gaffel amounted to and the pertinent marks 500,000 hl. With rackings of 326.000 hl (65%) in barrels, Gaffel belongs to the six largest offerers for Fassbier in Germany.
The core area of distribution is the district Cologne. Even in larger German cities Gaffel is poured out.
