Scientific name
Felis silvestris
Schreber, 1775

The game cat (Felis silvestris) is a kind within the family of the cats. This master nut/mother of our Hauskatzen is far common over Europe, west Asia and Africa, where she hunts rodents, birds and other small animals.

The subspecies of the game cat are combined into three geographically as groups from each other separated in the appearance clearly:

  • Forest cat or European game cat, with three subspecies
  • Falbkatze or African game cat, with nine subspecies
  • Steppe cat or asiatic game cat, with three subspecies

As a probable ancestor of all Hauskatzen the Falbkatze is regarded, although some scientists want to not completely exclude also a participation of other subspecies.
