The garb cutters, also wall cutters mentioned, were buyers of the Middle Ages, who acted with foreign Tuchen. Their commodities originated first from the Toskana, from the Netherlands and Flanders, later also from Swabia, Aachen or England.

They sold the commodity ballenweise or in the "“cutout"”. The right to the cutout, thus the cut off-wise sales that cloth, was frequently cause for the controversy with the shopkeepers, the webers and tailoring. The garb cutters came already early to wealth and connected themselves with the Patriziern. They sat soon in many German cities in the advice and won in such a way at political influence.

Their own Gilde, the garb cutters of the other quarters created in the city Braunschweig in the old part of town resident garb cutter followed the Gilde of the Lakenmacher. A certification of the reputation and the wealth of the Braunschweiger garb cutters, that were the most distinguished and oldest Gilde of the city, is in the old part of town in 13. and 14. Century builds garb house.
