The Gegengiftthese in the political economy means that incompleteness in the market happening adjusts itself mutually. Figurativy spoken there is poison to everyone ""to a certain extent "a Gegengift ".
As soon as an incompleteness in the market arises, then there is a further incompleteness, which adjusts the preceding. Offences against acceptance of the model of the complete competition can be tolerated thus, if at the same time further acceptance are hurt. A secondarybest, "suboptimale" solution develops. The firstbest, "optimal" solution cannot be achieved, if individual incompleteness is eliminated, but only if all are eliminated at the same time.
The correctness of the thesis presupposed, national interventions are ineffective or even harmful in the market. Rather incompleteness in the market would have to be tolerated.
The thesis emerged 1939 for the first time with John Maurice Clark.
