General admiral was the designation of the second highest admiral rank of the war navy of the German armed forces. It corresponded to the colonel general at army and Air Force. Also the imperial-Russian navy knew this rank.
On the sleeve a general admiral carried the same golden piston rings as an admiral -- three strips over the broad admiral strip -- but on the shoulder pieces it carried a third star.
The first general admiral was the later large admiral Erich wheels, who received this rank on 20 April 1936.
In the German Federal Armed Forces it does not give the rank general admiral; appropriate status is in the Federal Navy the admiral (NATO code: OF-9).
Complete list, without Erich wheels, who was promoted still to large admiral:
Karl was general admiral, but directly from the admiral to the large admiral was never carried.
