George Davis Snell (* 19 December 1903 in Bradford, Massachusetts, the USA; "† 6 June 1996 in bar Harbor, Maine, the USA) was an US-American physician, who itself predominantly with the Immunologie and transplant ion medicine busy. it kept the Nobelpreis for medicine and physiology common to 1980 with Baruj Benacerraf and Jean Dausset for the discovery of genetically certain cellular surface textures, by which immunological reactions are steered.

Biography

George Davis Snell was born 1903 in Bradford. It studied college later starting from 1922 at the Darmtmouth and to the Harvard University biology. Here it attained a doctorate 1930 and it received its first training order in the following year at Texas University in Austin. it went to 1934 to to the time at that time the leading laboratory to the study of the genetics from mammals, the Rsocoe B. Jackson Memorial Laboratories into bar Harbor. Here it was active from 1946 to 1956 as a professor and and from 1957 to its retirement 1969 as directors/conductors of the laboratory atria.

Work

George Davis Snell and its both colleagues distinguished with it concerned themselves considerably with the immunological compatibility from fabrics to transplant ions. Benacerraf, Snell and Dausset could prove in their experiments that these immune factors are genetically fixed. They are considerably responsible for the fact that it is experimentally possible to examine these factors since they could prove that itself also on the white blood corpuscles, which leukocytes the same factors find as with other body cells. Thus an immune factor system could be developed, which similarly and be already accomplished with that defence reactions can function to the systems of group of bloods by tests with patient blood.

Snell identified above all the genes, which were responsible for the acceptance and repulsion of body-strange fabrics during Benacerraf and Dausset were involved in the clearing-up of biochemical key molecules in this
