George Emil Palade (* 19 November 1912 in Iasi, Romania) is an US-American researcher of Romanian origin and carrier of the Medizinnobelpreises 1974.
Palade was born as a son of a philosophy professor and a teacher in Iasi. After training in its hometown and in Buzau he began 1930 with the study of the medicine in Bucharest, which he locked 1940 with the doctor title. To the Second World War it went 1945 to further studies into the USA. There it met 1946 in the institute for skirt skin he in New York town center on Albert Claude, who inspired it for the work with the electron microscope. it received the US-American nationality to 1952.
Emphasis of its work were electron microscopic investigations of cell structures such as Mitochondrien, Chloroplasten and the Golgi apparatus, 1953 supplied it the first description of the Ribosomen. From 1958 to 1973 he was a professor at the institute for skirt skin he. it kept 1974 common with Albert Claude and Christian de Duve the Medizinnobelpreis "for its discoveries for the structural and functional organization of the cell ".
From 1973 to 1990 he was a professor at the University of Yale and is active since 1990 at the University OF California, San Diego.
