Gerhard Mohnike (* 8 January 1918 in Wiesbaden; "† 8. March 1966 in grab forest) was a physician and a scientist, who concerned themselves with the treatment and study diabetes mellitus. It studied medicine at the Universities of Marburg and grab forest and locked its study 1942 with the graduation. Its teacher Gerhardt Katsch became, the time at that time professor for internal medicine at the University of grab forest.

Briefly after the end of its study it went to the 1930 from Katsch into Garz on the island created Diabetikerheim. With the mechanism of a further home for Diabetiker in Karl castle with grab forest, in the there lock, Mohnike became the leading upper physician of the new home. Thereby the responsibility for its structure was incumbent on it. To 2. May 1947 began the home enterprise in the Karlsburger lock with first 15 beds. Mohnike remained there active also after the removal of the Garzer department after Karl castle, in whose consequence Institut for diabetes research and treatment developed. Director of the new institute became Gerhardt Katsch.

1951 habilitierte itself Mohnike at the University of grab forest. After the death of Gerhardt Katsch in the year 1961 he transferred the line of the Karlsburger mechanism, which was called since then Institut for diabetes "„Gerhardt Katsch "“. Mohnike used itself with the further development of the institute particularly for a close connection between experimental and clinical research with the treatment and support of diabetischer patients. It published approximately 250 scientific work during its career. At the development of the oral Antidiabetika, at which the Karlsburger Institut had substantial portion starting from 1956, Mohnike was prominently involved, both with the sulphonyl urea introduced first to the therapy and later the Biguaniden. Within the clinical range its special interest applied among other things for the diabetischen late sequences as well as the pregnancy of diabetischen mothers. Among its activity emphasis within the range of the social medicine the advancement of the principle of the productive welfare service postulated by Katsch ranked with Diabetikern as well as the structure of a network of Diabetikerberatungsstellen in the GDR.

1963 he was selected to the tidy member the New York Acadamy OF Sciences. At the University of grab forest it received a Professur for diabetes, Endokrinologie and metabolic diseases. 1965 were lent to it the national price of the GDR for art and science. One year later died Mohnike, which had been even many years long Diabetiker, at the age of only 48 years. Its successor became refuge Bibergeil, which led Institut from 1967 to 1990.

The German diabetes company lends the Gerhard Mohnike in the memory at Gerhard Mohnike since 1994 at graduate students in the area of the clinical Diabetologie.
