The German colonial association belonged to the organizations, which one ranked among the colonization and administration companies for colonies.

The association was created on 6 December 1882 in Frankfurt/Main under the direction of Hermann prince to Hohenlohe Langenburg, which became also a first president. The association changed already in February 1885 to Berlin. In the association it gave around the 15,000 members. The members came predominantly from the policy, the industry, the trade and the banking. Crucial portion of developing the association had:

  • Johannes of Miquel, prominent representative of the Disconto society
  • R. Mutely, representatives of the Saar industry
  • Louis Baare, representative of the rheinisch large-scale industry
  • Henry Axel bend, Secretary-General of the central association of German Industrieller

The German colonial association tried to arouse the interest of the Germans in the colonial policy by journalism as well as the government and Reichstag to colonial annexations to urge. The members of the colonial association demanded an economic promotion of the existing colonies and the development of new colonial territories.

The German colonial association was merged on 19 December 1887 with the 1884 of Dr. Karl Peter created society into the Kolonisation into the German colonization and administration company for colonies. Organ of the association was the "“German colonial newspaper"”, which was created 1884 and dispatched free of charge weekly to the members.
