The German colonization and administration company for colonies was educated on 19 December 1887 by the fusion of the German colonial association and the society for German Kolonisation with the seat in Berlin.

The society was in the German Reich of the Kaiser era one of the most influential organizations. At your point well-known personalities, under it as a honorary president Hermann prince to Hohenlohe Langenburg, stood realm governor of Elsass Lorraine and Carl Peter as a president. Starting from 1895 duke Johann Albrecht followed to Mecklenburg, starting from 1920 Theodor Seitz and starting from 1930 Heinrich snow as a president. As vices-president several realm tag delegates worked.

The number of members amounted to in the year of the foundation 15,000 and rose until 1914 on 42000. To the prominent members among other things Henry Axel belonged bend, to managing directors of the central association of German Industrieller and the rheinsiche large banker Karl of the Heydt. The principal activity of the society existed in nationalistic publicising for an expansive colonial policy. It co-operated closely with the allGerman federation.

Until 1914 the society financed also individual economic projects in the German colonies. Together with the German fleet association and the realm board of admiralty the society promoted the excessive fleet armament of the imperial navy among emperors Wilhelm II. As language pipe to 1923 the appearing weekly "“German colonial newspaper"” served. Afterwards until 1929 "“the colonial German"” served as organ, which was then renamed in "“German colonial newspaper, overseas and colonial newspaper"”.

In on 16 June 1916 the formulated guiding principles over the future German colonial policy the society beside a large centralAfrican colonial empire demanded also annexations in Eastern Asia. After 1918 it publicised the reestablishment of a German colonial empire in Africa and Asia. With these demands the society was in agreement with the colonial policy of the NSDAP, with which it co-operated closely end of the 20's. After the seizure of power the society came up as part of the realm colonial federation. The realm leader Martin Borman ordered 1943 the deletion of the realm colonial federation "“because of war-unimportant activity"”.

Beside its newspaper the society published a multiplicity of brochures, flight writings, among other things leaflet material, organized exhibitions and lectures. The society exerted strong influence also on the school teaching and on the universities.

Soon after the establishment the society with approximately one hundred slides put the basic stick for a picture fig. (1), which was extended and updated in the consequence. Collecting tank passion did not only motivate this picture collection. The society saw like many mission mechanisms in lectures illustrated with photographies an effective means to demonstrate their goals. In an annual report it e.g. meant: "“These photos proved to a considerable degree suitably to obtain an alive conception of country and people in our colonies"”.

In the Second World War one spent the picture collection in of mines, in order to protect it against bombardments. After the war the collection was spent to Frankfurt/Main. To center of the nineties 20. Century stored the pictures in partially bad condition as continuous loan in the Frobenius institute. Afterwards the pictures were restored and digitized. In addition still handlolorierte large picture and small picture slides come. Geographically the pictures refer particularly to German colonies in Africa, in the Pacific and in Kiautschou. The pallet of the topics covers different ranges. It reaches from scientific expeditions, Flora and fauna, schools and missions, colonial officials and native chieftains to architecture and the transportation (2).
