Prehistory

The actual trip for the establishment of the military association was the second Morocco crisis 1911. Heinrich Class, the chairman of the allGerman federation developed together with the later chairman of the military association, general August germ to create the plan an association after model of the German fleet association. Germ was to that extent suitable for the reestablishment well, it was active until 1908 in the fleet association in leading position and had thus large experience within the range of the public work.

In December 1911 germ in several German newspapers turned to the public and invited all interested ones to the founders' meeting to Berlin. As goals of the association which can be created the stabilization of German army materiel was indicated, since the Morocco crisis had shown that France was not ready for giving in due to the weak German army.

Process

The establishment of the association took place on 28 January 1912 in Berlin. Its establishment began right after the association with one move journalistic work. Into Reichstag the brought in army collecting main was called insufficient and the demand for substantial was raised. After Reichstag the collecting main to 10. May 1912 had discharged, strengthened the association its activity and demanded a new collecting main.

At the beginning of of 1913 became a new army collecting main admits. This meant objectively one substantially reinforcement of the German army. The DWV welcomed this collecting main as a progress opposite that of the previous year, however she was still insufficient in its eyes.

Due to the substantial and aggressive agitation of the association on the part of the government it was considered whether these not when political association is to be classified. The consequence would have been that the officers, who were in large number member in the association no more have not might occur it. Since such a classification would then have had to apply in consequence also to the governmentnear fleet association, became from this idea distance taken.

After the acceptance of the army collecting main 1913 the meaning of the military association decreased. Only with beginning of the First World War its number of members grew again. After the war it could not renew its influence and finally dissolved 1935.

The piercing success of the military association before the First World War explains itself among other things from the fact that it possessed first the sympathetic consideration of the government. In the course of the army collecting main 1913 the sympathetic consideration changed however to dislike. Besides the Crown Prince professed itself openly to the military association. Another reason for a success was that it possessed members of the board by its direct entrance to several large newspapers.

Member development

The German military association became within short time the second largest German agitation association. After its establishment it already briefly possessed 7000 individual members. In September 1912 there was 40,000 individual members and 100,000 members, who were korporativ attached, i.e. they were over the membership in other associations member in the military association. In August 1914 the association possessed altogether 360,000 members. After the First World War the numbers of members decreased/went back rapidly and the association sank in the Bedeutungslosigkeit.
