Gertrude barks Elion (* 23 January 1918 in New York, the USA; "† 21 February 1999 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, the USA) was an US-American Biochemikerin and Pharmakologin.

Gertrud Elion led the department for experimental therapy of the Wellcome laboratories since 1966. It was distinguished in the year 1988 together with George Herbert Hitchings and James Whyte Black for the discovery of the antiprotozoischen and antibacterial effect of the 2,4-Diaminopyrimidine with the Nobelpreis. This discovery was basis for the development of numerous medicine materials, which are used particularly in the cancer therapy.
