Goods traffic centers (GVZ) (on English: Freight Village (FV); in some cases synonymously: Distribution of goods center) are logistics centers, in which goods between different are reloaded, arranged for charges and prepared for transporting. At this place different (e.g. road, rail) become, transport enterprise (forwarding businesses, Lagereien), traffic-supplementing services enterprises (vehicle service, advisory services) as well as logistics-intensive industrie and commercial enterprises united and interlaced. The spatial proximity promotes co-operation and division of labor of the settled enterprises.
GVZ fulfill thereby an important function in the completion of politically promoted combined traffic and the misalignment of the long-distance haulage of the road on the rail. Within the regional range a higher extent of utilization of the truck travels is particularly made possible by co-operation of the settled enterprises (see town center logistics); their economy and service can be improved by synergies between the settled enterprises (clustering). Ideal way should be settled GVZ in close proximity to population centres with favorable binding at the regional and long-distance traffic. There are country widely so far 33 GVZ locations (conditions 2005).
