Gottfried Benn (* 2. May 1886 in one field, Brandenburg; "† 7 July 1956 in Berlin) was a German physician, poet and an essayist.

Life

1886 to 1932

Gottfried Benn became to 2. May 1886 as a son of the Protestant minister Gustav Benn and its Mrs. Caroline Benn (geb. Jequier; from Swiss law native) in the village the one field in ehem. the circle Westprignitz born. The family drew few months after its birth after Sellin into the new Marks. 1911 were Benn Unterarzt in the infantry regiment 64 in Prenzlau; it however already separated 1912 for health reasons from the military. to 1912 it attained a doctorate and attained the permission as a physician in Berlin.Im resembles year appeared Benns first poem volume under the title Morgue and other poems (1912); this publication justified Benns early fame. Experiences of the physician find their direct precipitation in the poems.

1912 met Benn of the Dichterin Else Lasker pupil.

1914, briefly before the outbreak of the First World War, he traveled as a ship's doctor to the USA (on this journey Benn in its later works alludes quite often: "“"… the tween deck drove to America, inoculated. "”). In the same year it was received the marriage with Edith Brosin, geb. Osterloh. The daughter Nele was born on 8 September 1915. Gottfried Benn suffered since beginning of the yearly 1956 much from physical pain, a whose cause was clearly determined only briefly however before its death (bone cancer). It died only few weeks after its 70. Birthday because of 7 July 1956 in Berlin and is on the forest cemetery in Berlin Dahlem buried.

It maintained contacts among other things to Karl Schwedhelm.
