Gottfried Welsch (* 12 November 1618 in Leipzig; "† 5 September 1690 in Leipzig) was a German physician, medicine professor and a Stadtphysikus (highest Medizinalbeamter) and is considered as one the founder of the right medicine in Germany.

In the winter semester 1665/1666 was the rector of the Leipziger university. In this office it closed a contract with city and over the delivery of executing to the anatomy of the university for the improvement of the training, which became late models for similar conventions in completely Saxonia.

When 1680 the last plague raged in Leipzig, it advised the town councillor in its function as Stadtphysikus over counter measures and arranged among other things the first road cleaning and the prohibition of the pig attitude within the Stadtmauern. Likewise as Stadtphysikus it interspersed the pharmacy monopoly (prohibition on "„Possenreisser and Hans sausages "“to sell medicines) and placed a medicine tax on (list of the medicines with indication of the contents materials and prices, which can be reproached by the pharmacies).

Already 1660 appeared for the first time its rational one vulnerum lethalium judicium, its fundamental work to the court medicine over "„the reasonable evaluation of deadly wounds "“, which acts "„of nature and the causes of deadly wounds "“, their correct investigation and other questions connected with the subject. The 2. Edition., which appeared only two years after first, became around a section over "„the death characters with those, which deceased by poison "“supplemental.
