The entrepreneurial group was created in the year 1919 of William Rootes, a former autosalesman, who bought up gradually the individual manufacturers.

The Badge engineering under the company marks was remarkable. The entrance mark was Hillman; Sunbeam was responsible for sporty and Singer for vehicles.

After economic difficulties the enterprise was taken over in the year 1967 by Chrysler. Years the label names of the group of root it were given up to center of the 1970er in favor of the designation Chrysler.

Also after the end of the group of root it two vehicles of this company remained still for a long time with licensees in production, i.e. on the one hand the Hillman Avenger in Argentina as VOLKSWAGEN 1500 to 1991 and on the other hand the Hillman Hunter as Paykan in Iran until 2005.
