Johann Ernst Friedrich Gustav Bunsen (* 25 August 1804 in Frankfurt/Main; "† 27 February 1836 with San Patricio (Texas), the USA, fallen), Dr. med., was a German surgeon, leader Frankfurt being awake tower, late fighter in the texanischen war of independence.

Family

He was the son of the Frankfurt Johann George Bunsen (1790-1833).

Bunsen married Augusta Berchelmann, the sister of its Frankfurt friend Adolf Berchelmann in Belleville (Illinois).

Its older brother was George Bunsen, which became later in the USA an important paedagogue.

Its cousin was the chemist Robert William Bunsen (1811-1899).

Life

in Germany

Bunsen began already as a young medical student to become enthusiastic for the arising republican ideas. In the year 1831 it participated in the Polish rebellion against the Russian supremacy and in May 1832 was it participant in the Hambacher celebration. As political activist and member of the board of the "“German pressing and native country association"” he belonged to that to the small circle, on a secret Burschenschaftstag to 26. /27. December 1832 in Stuttgart revolutionary counter measures prepared.
