The entrepreneur from half was originally a trailer of the national socialism, member of the NSDAP and the SS and served in the rank of a major of the reserve as a defense officer in the armed forces.

His daughter, the television lady journalist Wibke Bruhns, published 2004 a much discussed biography over her father.
