Heinrich Stromer (* around 1476 in Auerbach in the Upper Palatinate; "† 25 November 1542) was a Leipziger university professor, physician and founder of Auerbachs cellar.

Family

Heinrich Stromer was born as a son of the Johannes Stromer. The family is since center 14. Century in Auerbach demonstrably and related to very wealthy families of the Upper Palatinate and the Patriziats.

Life

Heinrich Stromer studied the Magistertitel starting from 1497 at the University of Leipzig acquired there 1501 and became a professor of philosophy for the first time, 1508 rector of the university. 1511 it acquired the doctor title (Dr. med.), became 1516 professor of the pathology still several times and rector, 1523 Dekan of the medical faculty. After its place of origin it was called in Leipzig "„Dr. Auerbach "“. On 24 January 1519 Heinrich Stromer Anna Hummelshain, the daughter of the Hansz Hummelhain, married one the richest citizen, who was councilman and a wholesale merchant in Leipzig. In the same year Heinrich Stromer of its father-in-law inheriting for 3,500 guldens buys a property, on which he builds Auerbachs yard"” around 1530 "“. In its cellars is this very day one of the most steeped in tradition restaurants of Germany, the "“Auerbachs cellar"”.

Achievements

In the year 1504 it wrote a computing book "“algorithm linealis"”, in which it represented the initial founders of arithmetic.

As a body physician of numerous princes (among other things its national gentlemen Georg of the 1471-1539, as well as the hohenzollernschen brothers Joachim I., 1484-1535, cure prince of Brandenburg, and Albrecht II., 1490-1545, cardinal, cure prince and archbishop of Mainz) it wrote a number of medical writings, under it an often printed over the plague. In the time of the reformation Heinrich Stromer plays a central role in Leipzig. It stood in active exchange of letters with Martin Luther, Philipp Melanchthon, Ulrich of Hutten and Erasmus of Rotterdam. 1519 take part he itself to the Disputation Luther with Johannes hit a corner (27. June to 15. July 1519) and offer 1539 Martin Luther accomodation in Leipzig.
