Carl Peter Henrik Dam (* 21 February 1895 in Copenhagen, Denmark; " 18 April 1976 ebd.) was a Danish physiologist and biochemist.
Dam acquired 1920 its conclusion in chemistry at poly-technical Institut in Copenhagen and went then as an assistant to the royal veterinary one and agricultural university (Kgl. og , KVL) in Copenhagen, 1923 as an assistant to the department of biochemistry and physiology of the University of Copenhagen. 1925 it studied microchemistry in Graz with Fritz Pregl and became 1928 Assistenzprofessor, 1929 associated professor at Institut for biochemistry of the Kopenhagener university. With a work over the biological meaning of the Sterine it acquired 1934 the Ph.D in biochemistry.
1932-1933 went to Dam to the continuation of the work over the Metabolismus of the Steroide to Freiburg into mash gau to Rudolph the 1935 to Paul Karrer (Zurich).
During a lecture journey in Canada and the USA 1940-1941 the Okkupation took place via German troops (April 1940). 1942-1945 he worked as a researcher on the University OF smelling ester (smelling ester (New York)) and afterwards at the Rockefeller of institutes for Medical Research (today Rockefeller University). In absence he got a call as a professor for biochemistry to poly-technical Institut Copenhagen, Dam returned however only to end of war 1946 to Copenhagen. 1956-1962 he was director/conductor of the biochemistry of the Danish fat research institute.
Dam published 315 scientific papers and was member of numerous scientific combinations.
With its work over the Sterolmetabolismus with chickens in Copenhagen he discovered the Vitamin K. with the feed of a cholesterin free ration began with the animals substantial bleedings In the consequence it examined isolation and cleaning (together with Karrer), the chemical and physical characteristics and the biological function of the again discovered Vitamins.
For the discovery Vitamin of the K it kept 1943 common with Edward Adelbert Doisy the Nobelpreis for medicine.
