With Hottentottenwahl one marks the realm tag choice from 25 January 1907, because a their cause and election campaign were certain by the Hererokrieg, above all however by the Namakrieg in the colony German southwest Africa.

By the continuous and with high costs connected colonial war it came into Germany to a political crisis, after the German government had requested a supplementary budget at a value of 29 million Marks for the war in German southwest Africa on 2 August 1906 in Reichstag. Above all the center and the social-democratic party of Germany (SPD) refused in view of inconsiderate war guidance with uncounted killing and murdered one under the estimated 20,000 Nama also "“Hottentotten"” mentioned), agreeing further funds. When the grant of additional means for the war had been rejected in German southwest Africa by the majority in Reichstag, realm chancellor Bernhard von on regulation of the emperor dissolved the parliament on 13 December 1906. The election campaign for therefore as "“Hottentottenwahl"” the designated realm tag choice on 25 January 1907 was coined/shaped by the argument over the demanded continuation of the colonial war vehement of conservative ones and nationalists.
