Hrvatska Radiotelevizija (HRT) is the public broadcasting corporation of Croatia with head office in Zagreb. It operates in each case three national television and radio broadcasting programs as well as eight regional radio broadcasting programs. The society consists Hrvatska of the parts of Hrvatski radio (sound broadcasting), televizija (television) and Glazbena proizvodnja (music productions).

The legal basis forms the HRT law. The society is controlled by a HRT program advice. This eleven committee met for the first time on 14 November 2003, whose members are selected by the Croatian parliament. The advice intends also the general manager for one term of office of four years.

History

The forerunner of HRT is radio Zagreb. The transmitter began to 15. May 1926 with its transmissions and was thereby the first Radiosender in South-east Europe. End of the first transmission yearly gave it approximately 4,000 announced listeners.

At first the transmitter was organized and after the Second World War was put under state control private-economically. To 15. May 1956, thirty years after transmission beginning, was begun with the radiant emittance by television broadcasts. In addition on the mountain Sljeme, in more directly the capital, was established a transmitting plant.

Program

Television

There are the television programs HRT 1, HRT 2 and HRT plus. Transmissions on HRT 1 are bspw. the newscast Dnevnik, the Quizshow Tko "želi biti , the Talkshows Latinica and Otvoreno. HRT 2 is used with priority for sport reporting and maintenance transmissions. HRT plus is a program, which is radiated over cables and satellite.

Until 2004 there were also HRT 3. On its frequencies now the private station RTL Televizija is spread.

Sound broadcasting

Three national radio broadcasting programs are operated. HR 1 and HR 2 send a ready mixture from messages, maintenance, documentation and music. HR 3 is the transmitter with culture and classical music. Furthermore there are regional programs for Sljeme, Dubrovnik, Knin, Osijek, Pula, Rijeka, Split and Zadar. Furthermore there is the foreign service Voice OF Croatia.

Satellites

The programs of the Croatian broadcasting corporation are receiptable also by satellite. In Europe all television and radio programs are to be received over Hotbird 6, whereby for legal reasons only the radio programs and parts of the first television program will unencrypted transfer. The HRT sees itself as important medium for the Croatian Diaspora, which on completely Europe, north and South America and Australia is distributed. For these regions its own television station HRT Satelitski Program as well as the radio program glass Hrvatske is produced.

Competition

In the early 90's also private television stations at the Croatian market began themselves to establish (among other things new facts TV). 2004 became on resolution of the Croatian government, that denationalizes terrestrial Senderkette of the third television channel of the national television. The transmitter RTL Televizija, which sends since then on the frequencies of the formerly third program, received the addition.

The HRT operates also further a third television channel, now however under the name HRT plus (only over satellite or cable receiptable).
