The term human factor, also human measured variable, human factor (English human Factor) is a comprehensive term for psychological, cognitive and social factors of influence in sozio technical systems and man-machine systems. Contrary to the ergonomics and to classical ergonomics the emphasis is less thereby on the physical and anthropometrischen characteristics. Frequently of "„the factor humans are spoken "“on cut average of safety questions and psychology.

The psychological and cognitive achievements and abilities of humans play likewise a role like the achievement and ability borders. Because the abilities of technical systems continue to develop ever have the typically human talents as for co-operation, for problem solution (Non Technical Skills) a ever stronger meaning. The questions are: Which human characteristics must are considered, over

  • to adapt a technical environment humans optimally
  • the tasks to distribute competencies and responsibilities between humans and machine optimally
  • to make possible a smooth interaction at the man-machine interface
  • to decrease the consequences technical and human errors
  • To improve security and effectiveness of the overall system man-machine.
