Information logistics is concerned as a subsection of the information management with information flows within an organizational unit. A goal is the optimization of the availability and the turn-around times of information. Differently expressed the information logistics is concerned with the supply that

  • correct information
  • at the right time
  • in the correct format/in the correct quality
  • for the correct addressee
  • at the correct place

Methods for the reaching of this goal are

  • the analysis of the need for information
  • the optimization of the information flow
  • Sicherstellung of a high flexibility in technical and organizational regard

The term was coined/shaped by the Indian mathematician and librarian Shiyali Ramamrita Ranganathan.
