An ink cartridge is a container filled with ink, which is used in ink jet printers and stylographs and which supplies necessary ink for the writing and/or printing. Before the employment in the respective (writing) equipment the delta of the cartridge is locked by a thin diaphragm, a plug or a small ball.

With stylographs above all Geha and pelican-compatible formats became generally accepted.

With ink jet printers the print head is often integrated into the cartridge. Ink cartridges for such printers can be filled with a foam material sponge, which holds or of a negative pressure system consists the ink in its pores.
