Italsider was a largest Italian steel producer.

On 1 February 1905 in Genova the "“ Anonima Ilva"” was created for building of houses in the circle Bagnoli, which took up 1909 their work.

The capital of Ilva was involved to the "“Siderurgica di Savona"”, on "“la Ligure Metallurgica"”, in the blast furnace, which flanks hut and the steel plant of Terni, of the "“Ferriere Italiane e L' Elba - Anonima di Miniere e the Alti Forni"”, which had been created on 29 June 1899 as building contractor of Portoferraio. Starting from 1911 the society stepped 1918 as "„Consorzio Ilva "“up and fused it also "“Ilva Alti Forni e Acciaierie D' Italia"” with seat into Rome.

Starting from 1931 it shifted its seat to Genova. Due to the fascist economic policy for the overcoming of the world economic crisis it was controlled 1934 for the IRI. In June 1937 it was subordinated the Finsider, national financial getting thing of the IRI. 1961 followed a fusion with the "“Cornigliano S.p.A."”, why the society changed its name in "“Italsider Alti Forni e Acciaierie Riunite Ilva e Cornigliano"”. Since 1964 were only used the art name Italsider.

Italsider operated a modern steel plant, which was conceived after Japanese model on the inexpensive import by ore and coal over lake directly at the coast in Cornigliano with Genova. In the context of the development of the Mezzogiorno also with Neapel a steel plant at the coast was developed. Since sufficient not qualified workers let themselves be found however there, they had in north Italy abgeworben to become. A further enterprise was established after this model at the gulf by Tarent. Also in Triest ordered Italsider over a production location.

One of the germ cells from Italsider was in Ilva at the Iseosee. This location possessed however because of its situation cost disadvantages.

Italsider possessed 1975 in Italy a production portion of 60% of the national steel market. In it four steel plants were summarized. The national IRI possessed important participation in the ship, machine and automotive manufacture, whereby a substantial part of the steelmaking was absorbed by Italsider within the company group.

Italsider blew up the 1980 assured production rates in the Eurofer 1-Kartell.

On 19 September 1981 Italsider took over control of "“Nuova Italsider"” with all net assets, which were akquiriert by Marghera and San Giovanni Valdarno as well as the steel plant Piombino. 1983 decided Italsider for the own freiwillige liquidation and the transmission of all stock shares at Nuovo Italsider on Finsider.

In December 1986 Italsider decided its fusion with the Sirti, which the group of IRI - CONSTANT belonged.

The Nuova Italsider - formerly "“ Siderurgica Commerciale"” resident shifted in Rome since 1949 as a daughter of the Finsider and 1980 with new business purpose to Genova - received the own name Ilva S.p.A. in January 1989 with the liquidation of the Finsider back. 1996 were sold the Ilva S.p.A. to the Riva company.
