Iwan Petrowitsch Pawlow (Russian ; * 14. September/26. September 1849 in Rjasan; "† 27 February 1936 in Leningrad) was a Russian physician and physiologist. It received the Nobelpreis for medicine for its work to 1904 over the digesting glands.

In addition, he compiled and put important bases for the behavior research the foundation-stone for nearly all newer learning theories.

It was the conviction the fact that behavior can be based on reflexes and discovered the principle of conditioning. It differentiated between unkonditionierten (also naturally specified) and conditioned reflexes (by learning to be acquired).

Most well-known the Pawlow dog in such a way specified might be: a research project, which came out directly from its physiological studies appreciated with the Nobelpreis. In this connection Pawlow stated that the saliva secretion of a dog begins not only with the Fressvorgang, but already at the sight of the food. Also another attraction, for example a bell clay/tone, can release the secretion of saliva and other digesting juices, if it precedes regularly feeding. Pawlow explained the happening by repeated meeting of the attraction and to the following Fressvorgang. Then already the attraction is sufficient sometime, in order to release the saliva secretion. Pawlow calls this conditioned reflex.
