Sir James Whyte Black O.M. (* 14. June 1924 in Uddingston, Scotland) be a British Pharmakologe.

It developed the first beta receptor blocker. From 1992 on he was chancellor of the Scottish University of Dundee and received 1988 together with George H. Hitchings and Gertrude B. Elion for their work to biochemical principles of the medicament therapy the Nobelpreis for medicine.
