Lejeune (* 26 June 1926; "† 4 April 1994) was a French and Genetiker.

It described 1963 as the first under scientific criteria the cat cry syndrome. It designated it after the cat-similar cry (cri you chat = cat cry) of the children concerned in the early infancy. It was designated after it and is well-known therefore also under Lejeune syndrome.

it found 1959 out that with most humans with down syndrome in each body cell 47 Chromosomen are present instead of as usual 46. A Chromosom had to be present thus trebled (trisom). Which was that, he could not determine however at that time yet. Today one knows that it is the Chromosom 21.
