Johann Schroth, also Johannes Schroth (* 11 February 1798 in with Freiwaldau; "† 26. March 1856 in lime tree meadow) was a nature-sound and an inventor of the Schrothkur designated after it. It was called also roll doctor, because dry rolls were an important component of the cure.

Over date of birth of Johann the Schroth gives it different data, either to 1797 or 1798; there is also the indication 2 February 1800. Generally 11 February 1798 is accepted. Its place of birth belonged too Austrian to Schlesien. Another nature-sound, Vincenz Priessnitz, was in the primary school a schoolmate of Schroth. After the early death of his father its nut/mother married a wagoner from Niederlindewiese, where the family pulled then.

With approximately 18 years Schroth was hurt by the hoof impact of a horse at the right knee, which thereupon remained rigid. A monk of the medal of the Barmherzigen brothers is to have guessed/advised him to cold envelopes. After several weeks Schroth noticed a clear improvement, on which he used this "“therapy"” also with others. Strange to say Priessnitz developed its water therapy likewise in this way by a nearly identical accident. A further element of its Schrothkur, which took with "“drying days"”, Schroth observations at gotten sick cattle, which refused, hardly drank then the fodder and little moved. That brought it on the idea to transfer this behavior as cure to ill humans. This method obviously showed successes, in addition, and Schroth turned out soon into the call, a "“miracle doctor"” to be, as Scharlatan was designated and of the Kurpfuscherei accused.
