Johannes Marcus Marci de Cronland (* 13. June 1595 in Kronland, "† 10. April 1667 in Prague) be physician, philosopher and scientist.

Life

The 1595 in Kronland, today Lan"škroun, in as a son of an estate manager born January Marek Marci visited the Jesuitenschule in Jindrichuv Hradec starting from 1608. Since it aimed at a career as a priest, Marci studied philosophy and theology in Olomouc. 1618 it broke the training off, and from now on successfully dedicated themselves to the study of the Humanmedizin at the Prager Karl university.

From 1626 on Marcii was a practicing physician. Later he became a professor at the Karl university, in consequence Dekan and rector of the medical faculty.

1638 met Marci the Jesuiten and scholar Athanasius Kircher, with which a long friendship it should connect. Kircher introduced it to (at that time) the knowledge of the eastern writings, the Arab ones in particular.

When Prague was besieged 1648 by the Swedish military, kommandierte Marci a student military unit, which he had set up. For its earnings/services in the field he was raised 1654 into the nobility.

It was allowed to call itself from now on "“Johannes Marcus Marci de Cronland"”.

Occupation and research

Marci was already successful and also as a physician very body physician of the Habsburger emperors Ferdinand III. and its successor Leopold I.

As a scientist Marci in the areas of the medicine, mechanics, optics researched and subordinated mathematics:

• In the publication De proportione motus (1639) it, already before Isaac Newton, described its theory of the collision of bodies.
• Its realizations in the optics it published more liber de in Thaumantias arcu caelesti (1648) and Dissertatio de natura iridis (1650).
• In its medical work busy itself Marci both with philosophical and with theological problems. As trailer of the school of the Paracelsus it renewed the conception that an organic body from a seed develops.
• Marci particularly dedicated itself to topics, which we call today neurology and physiology. In addition for instance the investigation of the origin of Epilepti accumulations belonged.
