Johannes Oporinus (* 25 January 1507 in Basel; " 6. July 1568 in Basel), actually Johannes autumn, Buchdrucher and son the painter Hans autumn.
Oporinus completed academic training. Apart from its activity as Korrektor with Johann Froben, the most important Baseler printer early 16. Century, he informed since 1526 at the Basler latin school. Starting from 1537 Oporinus Greek taught at the university in Basel. 1542 it delivered its teaching profession, in order to be able to dedicate itself completely its Druckoffizin. Additionally it completed still another medicine study and became temporarily Famulus with the famous physician Paracelsus.
Its good knowledge of the old languages benefitted the quality of the throughout correct text editions of his workshop. With the view of the title page of a Oporinus pressure the Kupfervignette falls in the eye. It shows the mythischen lyra player Arion, which is carried by a dolphin over the sea. The most important printing element of the Offizin was the anatomy Atlas De humani corporis fabrica the human Andreas Vesalius (1514-1564), which appeared 1543.
The Erstdruck of latin Koran of 1550 brought Oporinus into substantial difficulties. The Basler town councillor wanted to prevent the pressure, gave way however due to the intervention of Martin Luther and Philipp Melanchthon. Later Oporinus shifted the church-historical works of Matthias Flacius (Catalogus testium veritatis 1556 and 1562) and from this lively Magdeburger the Centurien (1559-1574, only the centuries 1-13 implemented).
Besides appeared numerously theological disputations, expenditures for classical author and historiographische works. With its death it was high-indebted. Its handwriting collection and his extensive exchange of letters kept in the university library Basel.
