John Jacob Abel (* 19. May 1857 in Cleveland, Ohio, the USA; "† 26. May 1938 in Baltimore, Maryland, the USA) was an US-American biochemist and Pharmakologe.

Abel became by its investigations of the suprarenal body hormones admits. So it could isolate the adrenalin beside Napoleon Cybulski and Jokichi Takamine 1897 as the first. it represented the hormone insulin to 1926 crystalline. Its search for the hypophysis hormone remained however unsuccessful. It turned out later that it concerns here a multiplicity of hormones.

John Jacob Abel is likewise joint founder of the scientific technical periodicals journal OF Biological Chemistry (1905) and journal OF Pharmacology and experimental Therapeutics (1909).
