John Langdon Haydon Langdon down (* 18 January 1828 in Cornwall; "† 7 October 1896 in Normansfield) was a British pharmacist and physician with the field of activity neurology.

To it among other things the Erstbeschreibungen of the Williams Beuren syndrome, the Prader Willi syndrome and the down syndrome designated after it (Trisomie 21) decreases/goes back. It described and distinguished the latter for the first time in the year 1866 under scientifically oriented criteria it from other at that time well-known handicap forms. Still many in particular physical characteristics, which Langdon down described at that time, determine the clinical appearance of humans with down syndrome (Trisomie 21).

Langdon down coined/shaped allegedly 1887 overhauled the meanwhile and as devaluing felt term "“idiot savants"” (literally translated: "“Weak intimate scholars"”).
