Life

Warren was born 1937 in Adelaide in south Australia. After completion of its medicine study at the University OF Adelaide 1961 first employments at the Royal Melbourne hospital as well as Royal college OF Pathologists OF Australasia followed. 1967 it pulled after Perth, west Australia, and worked to date on the Royal Perth hospital.

Robin Warren is married with Win Warren and has six children.

Career

Together with the physician Barry Mars-resound received it in December 2005 the Nobelpreis for medicine for the discovery of the stomach bacterium Helicobacter pylori and the clearing-up its role with the formation of ulcers and stomach cancer.

Warren and Mars-resound identified in Biopsien of patients with gastritis (stomach inflammation) a new bacteria species, which described it as Helicobacter pylori.

By a self attempt the proof succeeded that stress and overacidification of the stomach are not the most important reasons for gastritides, ulcers and stomach cancer, but the again discovered bacterium. After the two researchers had succeeded Helicobacter pylori to cultivate explained themselves Mars-resound ready to swallow several billions of the bacteria. Up to this time it was considered as secured Lehrmeinung that bacteria could not survive the sour environment of the stomach. The unexpected happened nevertheless: already after only one week the first acute symptoms of gastritis and after a Biopsie showed up were clear with Mars-resound that both an infection with H had developed. pylori and heavy gastritis. Fortunately for the two researchers could Mars-resound by means of a treatment with bismuth and antibiotics to be again healed.

In the future Warren found, Mars-resound and further scientists out that those are to by far due most cases of ulcers and above all also stomach cancer to the allegedly harmless bacterium H. pylori. At the same time they could show that a healing is possible by the gift of antibiotics. In addition they furnished the proof that certain bacteria can survive also in the extreme environment of the gastric acid (sober pH 1-1.4).
