Josef Gerstmann (* 17. July 1887 in Lemberg, "† 23. March 1969 in New York) was a Austrian, Jewish neurologist.

It studied medicine in Vienna from 1906 to 1912 and attained 1912 the doctor title. It served in the 1. World war as a medical officer and received high bravery honors. Subsequently, he worked on the pychiatrisch neurological hospital until it 1930 Emil fair as a director/conductor of the mental hospital Maria Theresien in Vienna followed, at which he had habilitiert himself 1921 and got finally his professor title in the year 1929. It fled 1938 before the national socialists into the USA, where it established itself and among other things in the pc. Elizabeth hospital in Washington continued to operate its research and also practiced. It was member of the American neurological academy and the society for neurology and psychiatry in Rosario, Argentina.

It is admits for its descriptions the Gerstmann syndrome, the Gerstmann Scheinker syndrome and the Gerstmann test, an advancement of the Unterberger Tretversuchs
